Over a third of borrowers who took out a mortgage without using a broker have no form of protection policy in place, according to Legal & General Mortgage Club. The research found that 51 per cent of borrowers who went direct to a lender took out life insurance, while 5 per cent did not know whether or not they had any cover. Only 17 per cent of these borrowers took out critical illness cover and the same percentage took out income protection.
