John Hancock Life Insurance Co. plans to try out a number of wellness programs on some of its long-term-care insurance policyholders, which experts say would both help clients live longer, healthier lives and possibly provide an economic prop to one of the largest LTC insurers. The first of the pilot programs, the LIFT Wellness Program, involves an in-home visit by a registered nurse, who will “conduct an assessment, and may recommend certain behavior changes related to nutrition, exercise and/or home modifications with a focus on fall prevention,” according to a letter sent to advisers last month by the insurer and obtained by InvestmentNews. Protection for equipment that helps you and keeps you healthy At some point most of us will rely on a device to stay healthy, or for help in our daily life. We might need glasses, contact lenses or a hearing aid to help us see or hear. Crutches, a wheelchair or a stair lift might help us get around more easily. Some of us will need breathing equipment such as a nebuliser or portable oxygen tanks to stay healthy. In future more of us will use wearable technology to manage our fitness or to keep a check on a medical condition. It can add up to a lot of expensive equipment for your health and well-being, so it pays to check that you are covered in case of theft or damage. What’s covered by...

Abstract Introduction: Recent years have seen an increased utilisation of upper body lift following massive weight loss. Although it is typically considered cosmetic, the recurrent skin conditions and decline in quality of life may warrant medical necessity. We evaluated current insurance coverage and characterised policy criteria for upper body lift in the post-bariatric population. Methods: We defined upper body lift as a combination of mastopexy and upper back excision (UBE) and conducted a cross-sectional analysis of US insurance policies. Insurance companies were selected based on their enrolment data and market share. A web-based search and telephone interviews were conducted to...

What Is a Moratorium? A moratorium is a temporary suspension of an activity or a law until future events warrant lifting the suspension or related issues have been resolved. A moratorium may be imposed by a government or by a business. Moratoriums are often enacted in response to temporary financial hardships. (Both "moratoriums" and "moratoria" are acceptable as plural forms of the word moratorium.) For example, a business that has exceeded its budget might place a moratorium on new hiring until the start of its next fiscal year. In legal proceedings, a moratorium can be imposed on an activity such as a debt collection process. The moratorium will be lifted when a related...

Having adequate ski travel Insurance is vital if you are going on a skiing holiday, as I learned on my recent ski trip to Austria. I am just back from Austria, where my luggage didn’t arrive for four days. Yes believe me when I tell you, it was a nightmare! Before I left home I invested in new salopettes, snow boots with retractable spikes, and a ski-jacket with Recco detector on it (technology designed to find you in case of an avalanche!) To say I was well equipped is a massive understatement! Nevertheless having all this lovely ski-gear was fruitless as my bag only arrived on my last day. Luckily I had taken out ski travel insurance. I have a premier plus travel insurance policy,...

TUESDAY, July 2, 2019 (HealthDay News) -- An air ambulance might be your only chance to survive a medical emergency -- but a new study reports it's going to cost you. The median charge of an air ambulance trip was $39,000 in 2016, about 60% more than the $24,000 charged just four years earlier, researchers found. That amount is "more than half of the household income for the average American family in 2016," said lead researcher Ge Bai. She is an associate professor of health policy and management at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore. It's also much more than the median $10,000 it typically costs the company to conduct a helicopter air ambulance flight, said...
