Starting January 1, 2023, Public Law 116-315 has authorized the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to start a new life insurance program exclusively for disabled veterans – Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VALife). VALife is a Guaranteed Acceptance whole life insurance program for service-connected disabled veterans age 80 years or younger. However, some veterans age 81 and younger may also be classified as eligible. Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VA LI) provides guaranteed acceptance whole life coverage of up to $40,000 to Veterans with service-connected disabilities. All Veterans age 80 and under who have a VA disability rating of 0 to 100 percent are eligible for the VALI program and have no time limit to apply. I HAVE approved H.R. 1927, a bill relating to veterans' life insurance and pension programs. This bill will immediately increase pensions for over 1 million needy veterans, widows, and children. It will also reopen National Service Life Insurance for approximately 4 million veterans with service-incurred disabilities and for those veterans who are so seriously disabled they are no longer commercially insurable.
