Reviews for American Income Life

Company Culture

The boss used vulgar and unprofessional language. American income life insurance.

Overall compensation for your work

I was told I would get 2 weeks paid training and was NEVER PAID.

Suggestions for improvement

They should pay their employees.

What I like about the company

What I dislike about the company

Company Culture

Competitive. This job is not for everyone, point blank period. If you’re not willing to grind late some nights and on Saturday mornings then pass on the opportunity. Motivation is key, the biggest struggle with this job is the mental battle. Life Insurance is about serving clients not sales however your reputation is based on sales.

Support from management

Upper Management is great, at least is in my case. Being a part of the Surace-Smith part has been nothing short of fantastic. I can’t speak for other Agencies however I feel as though people are rooting for me.

Teamwork

My team is fantastic. I say it everyday, I got in at a perfect time. This may not be everyone’s experience as you really have to be open to criticism. Not everything in this world is nice, and growth comes from this struggle.

Freedom to work independently

I set my own schedule, only thing I can complain about is lengthy meetings which are almost mandatory.

Internal Communication

I can call anyone above me anytime on any day of the week and they will pick up. Management is always trying to help as they have a stake in the lower agents career with residuals and bonuses being based off production from team members. My only complaint is a vague description of the job when going through the hiring process.

Gender Equality

The culture of sales is male dominated however women are more than accepted. Women honestly seem to thrive when compared to their male counterparts so long as they work hard!

Attitude towards older colleagues

Nothing but respect for older employees. I try to learn something from everyone and have always tried to listen to my elders as they have experience.

Career Development

As someone who eventually wants to make a career in the financial industry, this is a great stepping stone to further my career. Sales experience is one of the most important qualifications employers look for now a days as well as experience just outright dealing with people.

Overall compensation for your work

Pay structure is great however the learning curve js very very VERY steep. Being unaware of outside forces can really f*** you

Insurance information

Office / Work Environment

I love the culture, especially what we are building.

Environmental Friendliness

Nothing too much to say on this.

Work-Life Balance

Honestly the hours can seem ridiculous at times. Having to turn down social events and family functions can be difficult, however I would rather grind now and establish myself.

Company Image

Yes and No. To be honest, there are some moral pitfalls. First and foremost I see recycled leads day in and day out. We work with union members who become leads when they return a card sent to them by their union. What I don’t get is why these people keep returning a card they know will have them contacted by an insurance agent if they don’t want to be contacted by insurance agents. Some policyholders become disgruntled because of vague information. Some agents are very unethical as many look at the job as more of sales and not service. It’s really however you take it because the reality is that everyone dies eventually. Honesty and compassion will take you farther than your outright charisma and sales charm.

Job Security

Can’t really be fired unless you do something illegal.

Handicapped Accessibility

I don’t see why not however we have no handicapped agents at my office.

Workplace Safety

Never felt threatened or unwelcome.

Challenging Work

It’s what yoy make of it. I love a good challenge and this job keeps me on my toes. Some days I feel on top of the world and somedays I think about quitting.

Inclusive / Diverse

Nothing to report on other than anyone and everyone is welcome so long as they work hard.

Suggestions for improvement

I wish training and the hiring process was a little more honest. Training could be a little more in-depth as many questions are left unanswered.

What I like about the company

Opportunity Limitless. It’s our motto and the truth. If you care about people, work hard and are self-motivated you’ll love this company.

What I dislike about the company

Nothing major, just a couple tweaks here and there. Being honest about the challenges faced everyday by Agents would be much better for prospective hires as many come in oblivious to what they will really be doing on a day-to-day basis.

Support from management

They act interested in the beginning. But half way through they're not very supportive.

Overall compensation for your work

Money is good but you have to give a lot of time to this.

Office / Work Environment

They love you at first, then when you're invested and barely trained, they throw you out alone. Management treated us like cattle.

Work-Life Balance

Be prepared to work late at night, in unsafe places, by yourself. They work independently, no teams. NOT SAFE.

Company Image

It's not what it seems...feels like a scam after you getting there.

Job Security

Workplace Safety

Sends you out to shady neighborhoods alone. Makes you see clients w appointments up until 10pm. Hot knocking makes the customers mad. They love to do hot knocks.

Suggestions for improvement

Send teams of two instead of one. It's safer and they could split the commission.

What I like about the company

I like the concept of helping hard working people, but they train you to make the sale. Not do what's best for the customer.

What I dislike about the company

I felt like a number. They have a high turnover. Be prepared to spend $$ for licensing, etc. They need to send people out in teams. I almost got jumped being in a bad neighborhood, by myself, at almost 10 pm.

Company Culture

You are expected to spend far too long in a clients home and make them sit and listen to a pitch.

Principal life insurance

Support from management

As I said direct manager was great.

Teamwork

I did receive help from my direct manager but the buck stopped there.

Internal Communication

Training was lacking and upper management was not open to any ideas. Such as correct spelling or grammar.

Work-Life Balance

You could go without a day off for weeks if you let them intimidate you.

Challenging Work

Suggestions for improvement

Limit the presentation and the videos.

What I like about the company

What I dislike about the company

Having to spend two hour with clients before a sale is finale. And how hard of a sell they push.
